The 4th Annual “ROCKIN’ RIBFEST & Pro Rodeo” May 30 – June 1 to Benefit Dove House

On May 30 – June 1, The Family RV Center will present The 4th Annual Rockin’ RibFest & Pro Rodeo at the Iredell County Fairgrounds in Troutman.  This 3-day event will feature a rib cook-off with national competitors, a sanctioned Pro Rodeo all 3 days, 10 bands including John Ford Coley, an RV show and sale, the All American Lumberjack Shows, No Joe’s Clown Circus, arts and crafts vendors, a Battle of the Bands, a free inflatable Kid’s Zone, and an opportunity to meet Ben Caylor, Season 4 Finalist on Hell’s Kitchen. Caylor will be judging the Critic’s Choice Rib Cook-Off as part of a panel of judges. Proceeds from the 3-day event benefit Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center , a safe, child-friendly facility where children who are victims of sexual assault are treated with compassion and dignity throughout all investigative activities, court preparation, and follow-up therapy.  Dove House currently receives an average of 6 newly reported cases per week.

On Friday, May 30th, Rockin’ RibFest & Pro Rodeo kicks off with The WRFX 99.7 Battle of the Bands, which starts at 6:30 p.m., and features 3 regional bands; The Reach Band, The Undercover Band, and Steel Water. These 3 bands will compete for cash prizes and trophies as they are scored by a panel of judges. The Pro Rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m. for those that are more inclined to watch broncin’ bulls and cowgirl’s barrel racing. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., and America ’s award-winning “ribbers” will be ready with mouth-watering, fall-off-the-bone ribs and the best-tasting barbeque in the country. These national ribbers will be competing for bragging rights throughout the weekend, with local celebrity judges voting for the “Critic’s Choice” winner on Saturday afternoon. The “People’s Choice” award winners will be decided by the attendees, as they vote for their favorite ribs at a computer kiosk.

On Saturday, May 31st, an incredible line-up of live music will take the main stage, as regional favorites The Band of Gold, featuring local personalities Liz Luke and Jim Shafer, will perform at noon. Avalanche, the 2006 Battle of the Bands winner,  will rock the house at 4:30 p.m., followed by another regional favorite, The Part-Time Blues Band. At 9:30 p.m., immediately following the rodeo, Mustang Sally takes the stage. This all-girl band, billed as “five chicks rocking out”, will do just that. Having played the Texas State Fair, the largest state fair in America , these girls know how to get the crowd going.  Gates open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

On Sunday, June 1st, change from your church attire into shorts and a t-shirt and head directly to Rockin’ RibFest, which kicks off with the R&B/Funk-infused Gospel music of Joint Heir at 1:00 p.m. What an inspirational way to jump into a plate of mouth-watering ribs! The legendary John Ford Coley, formerly of England Dan & John Ford Coley, will take the stage at 3:00 p.m. Take a trip back to the 70s with chart topping hits “Love Is The Answer”, “I’d Really Love To See You Tonight”, “Nights Are Forever”, “We’ll Never Have To Say Goodbye Again” and “Sad To Belong”. Headlining on Sunday is the sweet sound of Sweetwater Jade. You will be impressed by the angelic harmonies of these three young ladies from Mississippi . Gates open at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

In addition to the Pro Rodeo, other festivities featured all 3-days include the All American Lumberjack Shows, No-Joe’s Clown Circus, a free inflatable Kid’s Zone, concerts, the RV show and sale, and of course, amazing ribs, BBQ, and festival food.
