The
4th Annual “ROCKIN’ RIBFEST & Pro Rodeo” May 30 – June 1
to Benefit Dove House
On
May 30 – June 1, The Family RV Center will present The 4th
Annual Rockin’ RibFest & Pro Rodeo at the Iredell County Fairgrounds
in Troutman. This 3-day event will
feature a rib cook-off with national competitors, a sanctioned Pro Rodeo all 3
days, 10 bands including John Ford Coley, an RV show and sale, the All American
Lumberjack Shows, No Joe’s Clown Circus, arts and crafts vendors, a Battle of
the Bands, a free inflatable Kid’s Zone, and an opportunity to meet Ben Caylor,
Season 4 Finalist on Hell’s Kitchen.
Caylor will be judging the Critic’s Choice Rib Cook-Off as part of a panel of
judges. Proceeds from the 3-day event benefit Dove
House Children’s
Advocacy
Center
, a safe,
child-friendly facility where children who are victims of sexual assault are
treated with compassion and dignity throughout all investigative activities,
court preparation, and follow-up therapy. Dove
House currently receives an average of 6 newly reported cases per
week.
On
Friday, May 30th, Rockin’ RibFest & Pro Rodeo kicks off with
The WRFX 99.7 Battle of the Bands, which starts at 6:30 p.m., and features 3
regional bands; The Reach Band, The Undercover Band, and Steel Water. These 3
bands will compete for cash prizes and trophies as they are scored by a panel of
judges. The Pro Rodeo begins at 7:30 p.m. for those that are more inclined to
watch broncin’ bulls and cowgirl’s barrel racing. Gates open at 5:00 p.m.,
and
America
’s award-winning
“ribbers” will be ready with mouth-watering, fall-off-the-bone ribs and the
best-tasting barbeque in the country. These national ribbers will be competing
for bragging rights throughout the weekend, with local celebrity judges voting
for the “Critic’s Choice” winner on Saturday afternoon. The “People’s
Choice” award winners will be decided by the attendees, as they vote for their
favorite ribs at a computer kiosk.
On
Saturday, May 31st, an incredible line-up of live music will take the
main stage, as regional favorites The Band of Gold, featuring local
personalities Liz Luke and Jim Shafer, will perform at noon. Avalanche, the 2006
Battle
of the Bands
winner, will rock the house at 4:30
p.m., followed by another regional favorite, The Part-Time Blues Band. At 9:30
p.m., immediately following the rodeo, Mustang Sally takes the stage. This
all-girl band, billed as “five chicks rocking out”, will do just that.
Having played the Texas State Fair, the largest state fair in
America
, these girls know
how to get the crowd going. Gates
open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
On
Sunday, June 1st, change from your church attire into shorts and a
t-shirt and head directly to Rockin’ RibFest, which kicks off with the
R&B/Funk-infused Gospel music of Joint Heir at 1:00 p.m. What an
inspirational way to jump into a plate of mouth-watering ribs! The legendary
John Ford Coley, formerly of
England
Dan & John Ford
Coley, will take the stage at 3:00 p.m. Take a trip back to the 70s with chart
topping hits “Love Is The Answer”,
“I’d Really Love To See You Tonight”, “Nights Are Forever”, “We’ll
Never Have To Say Goodbye Again” and “Sad To Belong”.
Headlining on Sunday is the sweet sound of Sweetwater Jade. You will be
impressed by the angelic harmonies of these three young ladies from
Mississippi
. Gates open at 1:00
p.m. on Sunday.
In
addition to the Pro Rodeo, other festivities featured all 3-days include the All
American Lumberjack Shows, No-Joe’s Clown Circus, a free inflatable Kid’s
Zone, concerts, the RV show and sale, and of course, amazing ribs, BBQ, and
festival food. The Iredell County Fairgrounds are located at
630 North Main
Street
in Troutman.
From the north, take I-77 south to exit 45 (
Amity Hill Road
) and turn right,
then left on
Murdock Road
. The
fairgrounds are about 3 miles on the right. From the south, take I-77
north to exit 42 (US-21/NC-115) and turn left at the end of the ramp. The
fairgrounds are 3.5 miles on the right. General Admission for Rockin’ RibFest
is only $8.00 each day. Children 6 - 12 are $5, and under 6 are free. Admission
includes the Pro Rodeo, lumberjack shows, clown circus, the inflatable Kid’s
Zone, and all concerts. General Parking is $3 per day. Please refer to
